Dog Obedience Company of San Diego

Education and Rehabilitation

If you're struggling with your dog's obedience but don't have time for traditional training methods, or even just need help with leash obedience to achieve a balanced, obedient dog, we can definitely assist you.

Mission Statement

At D.O.C. of San Diego, our mission is to empower dog owners with the knowledge and skills to establish effective leadership and discipline with their canine companions. Unlike traditional training methods, we provide a unique approach to dog behavior that focuses on understanding and addressing the root causes of behavioral issues without relying on positive reinforcement which may suppress behavioral issues. Our goal is to guide owners in fostering a respectful and balanced relationship with their dogs, whether addressing simple obedience challenges or severe aggression. We are dedicated to helping dog owners create a harmonious and well-behaved home environment through clear communication and consistent, compassionate leadership. This approach not only resolves immediate challenges but also fosters long-term harmony between dogs and their families.

ABOUT US

David is a dedicated and experienced dog behaviorist with over 20 years of expertise in modifying dog behavior and rehabilitating dogs. With a deep understanding of canine psychology, David has committed a lifetime to improving the lives of dogs and their owners through leadership and discipline, rather than traditional positive reinforcement methods.

In the early years of David’s career, the establishment of the Haven 4 Paws Foundation marked a significant milestone. This non-profit organization, approved under 501(c)(3) by the IRS, was dedicated to educating, rescuing, and rehabilitating dogs in need. One of its primary missions was to save so-called “aggressive dogs” from euthanasia, highlighting David’s passion for addressing and correcting misunderstood behaviors.

Dog aggression is often misunderstood by humans, and David has dedicated a lifetime to educating the public on this critical issue. Recognizing that behavioral problems often stem from deeper issues, David works closely with dog owners to develop tailored strategies that promote clear communication and mutual respect.

In April 2022, David founded D.O.C. of San Diego with the primary goal of providing education and guidance to dog owners. Motivated by the surge in dog adoptions during the COVID-19 pandemic, David saw the need to support inexperienced dog owners who adopted pets during the lockdown. Many of these dogs lacked proper discipline and socialization, leading to various behavioral issues. With a reputation for effectively transforming difficult behaviors and empowering owners to become confident, capable leaders, David continues to make a profound impact in the field of dog behavior.

As a multilingual professional, he speaks English, Spanish, and Tagalog fluently, enabling him to connect with a diverse range of clients.

Whether you are struggling with a disobedient puppy or an aggressive adult dog, David is committed to guiding you through the process of achieving lasting, positive change, ensuring a balanced and fulfilling life for both dogs and their owners.

We educate dog obedience without using positive reinforcement, often termed as traditional or aversive training. Our approach combines leadership, discipline, and obedience coaching, utilizing methods fundamentally different from reward-based techniques. We avoid using training commands, E-collars, or positive reinforcement, as these can exacerbate behavioral issues in some dogs. Instead, we rely on leadership, verbal discipline, and body language to communicate what we don't like or want.

We offer guidance to dog owners on how to establish leadership with their canine companions. Our straightforward approach to natural dog communication is easy to understand. Our method was developed over years of studying and working with dogs. David discovered that traditional training methods, which focus on commands, often suppress bad behaviors and cause more anxiety and stress, leading to future issues. Instead of relying on positive reinforcement to redirect bad behaviors, we teach how to unlearn bad behaviors and remap what the dog's brain has stored in its memory. Let us help you build a positive bond with your dog and create a stress-free environment for all.
